Music is in the air

Dear diary,

I don’t know about other people, but I couldn’t imagine my life without music. It’s a kind of power that helps me going on in moments I feel sad or extremely happy. I really couldn’t live without music, nor begin my day without that positive sound. I do hate silence, and very much to be honest, except in those moments when silence is really necessary. When I was a kid, I couldn’t fall asleep without my radio on, one of those habits that I haven’t abandoned even when I grew up. Music is and will be the big part of me forever, I’m pretty sure. So, today, I want to say few words about music and its influence on my life.

As I said, I grew up with music. In our house what never was missing is that precious sound. Besides, with my dad who was a folk singer, it was impossible to be different. I remember, when I was a kid, at that time we already moved from Vrnjacka Banja to Kraljevo, I was about 6-7 years old, my dad was singing every summer in one restaurant, always full of people who adored his voice. He really had a great voice, still has, although he stopped singing professionally. Although he never recorded, that was his profession, as some other “normal” job. Sometimes even now, we’ve been living in Italy for ten years, he sings his favorite folk songs, and our Italian friends get every time impressed, especially when he shows them some videos of weddings parties where he sang. Since his actual job takes him far, usually out of Italy, he is a truck driver, every weekend when he’s at home, there is a folk music on. Always. However, none of our neighbors complained so far. One who complains it’s me, from time to time, because it’s easy to get fed up with those folk songs he adores. I don’t dislike folk music, how could I, it’s a part of our Serbian heritage, but I like other types too. Depends on my mood, obviously.

Recently, I started writing again after a very tough period which is luckily over. I’m cooperating with the “Wannabe magazine”, which keeps me pretty much alive and active, there’s this blog too, and, finally, I started to work on my new book. As I mentioned few times, I do really like writing, more than anything in the world, and every time I have to create something, I can’t do that without music. Obviously, in order to write you need to have some inspiration, and for me there is no better inspiration of music. Well, not all types of music. I couldn’t work with the folk music on, or some house or dance music, it’s ruing my concentration for evident reasons (It makes me dance!). When I write, I prefer some instrumentals in the background, or classical music, which is really great. I used to study with it. (And imagine that at school I was not that fan of Mozart or Beethoven , or Vivaldi who’s my favorite now). I adore Clayderman, and his instrumentals are the top for me. But today I discovered something very interesting, or better, somebody. His name is John Butler, and the piece, performed by his trio is called “Ocean”. It really made my day.

What’s my favorite instrumental? Well, there are more that I like, but the favorite ones are, Adagio, by Albinoni, and Rodrigo, Concierto de Aranjuez. This last one reminds me of period when I was studying piano. I wanted so badly to learn Concierto de Aranjuez, but my teacher, Dragana, was telling me that it was very difficult, as I was just the beginner. Even today this motive gives me the same emotions.

Music was, it is, and it will always be in the air, in every breath I take.

Good evening world!
